Happy Labor Day to my US and Canadian readers. For the latter, my apologies for not spelling it “Labour Day.”
This time of year is also the beginning of football season in the US. My son’s high school team played its first game last week. My alma mater also started its season on Saturday and that’s all I’m going to say about that. The NFL kicks off on Thursday, September 5. (Yes, my Canadian friends, I know the CFL regular season is about two-thirds over.)
If you’ve followed my blog for a few years, you already know the connection between North American football and the affirmation of blue-collar work that is officially celebrated on Labor Day. With a German Communist poet and playwright thrown in. (Hey, a stopped clock is right twice a day).
And if you haven’t followed my blog, I stand by that post. Go read it.
